2014 Honourees will be announced in early April 2014.
"I think the idea behind the Oslo Business for Peace Award, and the potential impact it may have, is important and inspiring." H.E. Kofi A. Annan
The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and local chambers of commerce assist in the global nomination process for the Business for Peace Award by searching for outstanding business people who have been able to achieve business success while acting in an ethically responsible way.
The inaugural Awards were given for the first time in 2009 in Oslo, Norway - the home of the Nobel Peace Prize, with honorees chosen by a prestigious Award Committee consisting of past Nobel Prize winners in Peace and Economy.
The Committee of the 2014 Business for Peace Awardconsists of the following Nobel Laureates:
Professor A. Michael Spence (USA) ;
Professor Finn E. Kydland (Norway) ;
Peace Activist Leymah Roberta Gbowee (Liberia) ;
Professor Muhammad Yunus (Bangladesh).
The 2013 Business for Peace Awards were given to six outstanding business people from Brazil, Denmark, Pakistan, United States and Yemen.
Chambers of commerce worldwide have long proposed that there is a relationship between peace and business.
Business deals are sealed with a handshake, and lasting business relationships are created when handshakes are made in good faith between partners intent on creating mutual benefits for one another.
In the spirit of corporate social responsibility, ethically aware business practices build win-win enduring relationships, forging a union between not only business partners, but also with the societies that are touched by their business activity.
The collaboration between ICC and the Business for Peace Foundation in bestowing the Business for Peace Award is a wonderful opportunity for both to fulfill their mission of promoting peace and prosperity through trade.
