Two innovative, new non-profits selected to receive over $50,000 in funding and pro bono services to help tackle health disparities and unemployment in DC
Washington, DC (March 21, 2012) – DC Social Innovation Project is pleased to announce the winners of its inaugural Bright Idea Challenge, a grant competition to find and support the next generation of ideas and entrepreneurs that will have a positive impact on the lives of Washington, DC’s residents. After an extensive application and selection process that began in September 2011, and selected from among thirty-eight applicants, the two winners are:
Young Doctors Project (grand prize winner) – Founded by Dr. Malcolm Woodland, the Young Doctors Project will train a small group of African-American male high school students in Ward 8 to address the health needs of their community by conducting supervised mobile health clinics at neighborhood churches, parks, and recreation centers.
Food for Life – Founded by Marisa Stubbs, Food for Life is a culinary training and food education venture that teaches unemployed young DC residents lacking educational and vocational options how to have productive and healthy lives.
