The Mobiles for Education (mEducation) Alliance is pleased to announce that Orange, one of the world’s leading telecommunications operators, has selected six mEducation projects from those represented at the 2013 mEducation Alliance International Symposium: Commit Fair for Project Scaling to receive specialized technical assistance.
The newly established partnerships are a result of the commitment made by Orange, through Orange Labs, in charge of the Group’s research, technical design and deployment activities, at the 2013 mEducation Alliance International Symposium. Orange is devoting a total of 120 days of employee time to assist implementing NGOs and social enterprises in the design and scale of innovative and sustainable mEducation solutions in countries where Orange works. Following the announcement, Orange selected the following projects:
- Real-time Access + Utilization of Children’s Learning Data (Columbia Earth Institute)
- SMILE (Seeds of Empowerment)
- LEARNET (Natoma Group)
- Yes Youth Can! Western Mobile Market Place (Winrock International and Mobile Movement)
- Professional Learning for Educators Series (PLES)-Mathematics (Aga Khan Academy)
- Integrating Mobile Learning Solutions for Syrian Refugees (UNESCO)
Other commitments made at the Symposium include:
- Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) announced the launch of an mEducation Alliance mEducation for Numeracy Working Group on behalf of Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) and Global Partnership for Education (GPE). BMZ/GIZ and GPE will support the working group beyond the Symposium through different activities. In addition, BMZ/GIZ and GPE plan to initiate and partially fund the commissioning and publication of research that collects evidence on the effects of sustainable mobile education for early-grade math education and learning outcomes, and a preparatory phase of a pilot exercise to measure learning outcomes in early-grade math with the use of mobile devices.
- Partners of All Children Reading: A Grand Challenge for Development (ACR-GC), which seeks ground-breaking solutions that offer scalable and cost-effective innovations to address early grade reading, highlighted a future round of ACR-GC prize and grant funding focused on language of the playground, community engagement, and disability.
- Accenture ADP announced that it would provide business and mentoring consulting support to help mEducation projects implement ideas through its team of management and technology consultants.
